RxSight™ Light Adjustable Lens Now Available at The Center for Excellence in Eye Care

The new RxSight™ Light Adjustable Lens which is the First and Only Lens That Can Be Customized AFTER Cataract Surgery is now available in Miami, FL at our office, The Center for Excellence in Eye Care.

While outcomes of traditional intraocular lens (IOL) implantation are generally good, many patients are not completely satisfied with their vision outcomes. In fact, only about 50% of patients achieve their targeted distance vision without glasses.1 This is because it is very difficult to predict the exact characteristics of the lens and how your eye will heal before your cataract surgery.

With the RxSight™ Light Adjustable Lens, you can now customize your vision after your cataract surgery. This is because the Light Adjustable Lens is made of a special photosensitive material that changes the shape and power of your implanted lens in response to ultraviolet (UV) light. This optimization is done by your eye doctor after lens implantation through a series of light treatment procedures that take only a few minutes each. You will have the unique ability to adjust and preview your vision until it meets your personal desires and lifestyle requirements.

If you select the Light Adjustable Lens, the first step is to have your cataract safely removed and the adjustable IOL implanted. The cataract removal and IOL implantation procedure is the same as if you selected a non-adjustable IOL.

What is unique about the Light Adjustable Lens is that you return to the clinic after your eye heals to have your vision tested. You and your doctor will be able to preview and compare possible vision outcomes before selecting a prescription for your adjustable lens.

To receive the light treatment, you will be placed in front of the Light Delivery Device (LDD), which non-invasively delivers UV light that precisely reshapes your implanted lens based on the visual correction that is needed to target your custom prescription. You may need 2 to 4 total light treatments over a period of 1 to 2 weeks to reach your vision goals.

The Light Adjustable Lens delivers superior vision outcomes that non-adjustable IOLs cannot match. In a study of 600 patients, those who received the Light Adjustable Lens were twice as likely to achieve 20/20 vision at 6 months without glasses compared to those who received a standard monofocal IOL.2
